Work Trade Resources

 Welcome, work trader!

We regularly rely on our beloved work traders to keep the organization and trainings running smoothly. The way we see it, you are an asset to the organization — including and beyond the tasks performed — and contribute to better Ks in the training room.

Aside from the benefit of making the training more affordable for you, by being a work trader at NLP Marin you also benefit by being involved with and contributing positively to the energy and culture of this unique and nurturing community. We find that this results in a wonderful boost to your sense of belonging and value.

This page is here solely to provide you with a central location for support information and other resources. Please let us know if there is anything useful we can add or helpful changes we can make.

Thank you!

Frequently Asked Questions

1Which classes need student workers who get a percentage discount?

So many of them! The following classes need dedicated students to take on positions while taking the class (Registrar, AV, Logistics — see the registration page for descriptions of the positions; read the contracts below for further details.) These students receive a discount on tuition in return for their work.

  • Core Competencies of Communication and Change
  • Master Practitioner Certification Training
  • Holographic NLP: Continuing the Journey of Mastery
  • Rapport with Self (BGI)
  • Beyond Blame and Shame (BBS)
  • Money Magic
  • Resource Mastery
  • Integration of Consciousness (DMA)
  • Understanding Family Constellations
  • Evenings with Carl

Please note: positions in classes that lead to another level (such as Core Competencies which leads to Masters, or Holo 1 to Holo 2) provide priority for, but not a guarantee for, the same position in the next-level class.

2Which classes/events need hourly workers?

These class and events need hourly workers to set up, staff, and break down the events:

  • Intro workshops
  • Intensive NLP Training Course (ITC)

We also need hourly workers for AV processing, office work, and special projects. Please talk to your NLP Marin contact for more information.

3How do I know how much credit I have earned?

Because you have been keeping track!

For tuition percentage positions, your credit will have been discounted from your balance at the start of the training. This amount will have been discussed with you by your NLP Marin contact. If you need these numbers again, please ask.

For hourly work, you'll record your hours on your timesheet as you go and submit the timesheet at least monthly. Keep copies of your timesheet so you can be sure that all your credit is applied as you need it. As you apply it, keep track of how much you used and what for. In other words: track your work trade balance like a checking account!

4Which classes can I pay for with earned credit?

Almost all of them! When you earn hourly credit, you can apply it toward your tuition for the following courses:

  • Core Competencies of Communication and Change
  • Intensive NLP Training Course (ITC)
  • Master Practitioner Certification Training
  • Holographic NLP: Continuing the Journey of Mastery
  • Rapport with Self (BGI)
  • Beyond Blame and Shame (BBS)
  • Resource Mastery
  • Integration of Consciousness (DMA)
  • Evenings with Carl
  • Videos on Demand and other online products

When you wish to apply your credit, please talk to your NLP Marin contact so your credit can be included in your payment arrangement. Remember to track your own credit balance!

Tuition-percentage positions are specific to the one class they are contracted for.

5Which forms do I need to fill out?

At the beginning of your work relationship with NLP Marin, you will need to fill out a W-9 and an Initial Work Trade Agreement. Everybody fills these out, no matter the type of work or financial arrangement.

Work traders who are filling a position for tuition discount also need to sign a contract at the beginning of each training that they work. Example: Jane signs a contract for the AV position for Core Competencies, then signs a new one when she goes on to the AV position for Masters.

Anybody who does work on an hourly basis will need to also submit a work trade timesheet to receive credit for their work. When you do the hourly work, please make sure you have one to record your hours. Submit it as directed, at least monthly, and keep a copy for yourself.

All forms are available below.

6Do I really need to pay taxes on my tuition discount/earned credit?

Maybe. We can't give you tax advice. If this is important to you (perhaps the increase in income will affect the services you receive, or an income-based payment you make), please consult an accountant before making a commitment.

The way we currently understand it, your work-trade earnings and discount are barter income with a dollar value equivalent. The IRS considers this taxable, so our accountant will be obliged to issue you a 1099 if this amount is over $600.
